Windows-Update breaks the taskbar

The Preview Update KB5039302 for Windows 11 is causing more issues. Now, it’s not just a boot loop.

Microsoft has reactivated the originally problematic June Update KB5039302 for Windows 11. However, the patch will not be rolled out to PCs with Hyper-V enabled at this time. It appears that Microsoft has not yet fully resolved the boot loop problem associated with virtualization techniques. Moreover, a new bug has emerged.

Some users are experiencing issues with the taskbar. In some cases, it doesn’t load correctly and cannot be used. Since many system elements are accessed directly through the taskbar, this is a significant issue. Microsoft seems to have restricted the bug to certain devices. It occurs when the media features of Windows 11 are disabled. Therefore, devices running an N-version of Windows 11, where media features are generally turned off, are also affected.

No solution from Microsoft yet

“It is possible that you may not see or interact with the taskbar when you log in to your device after installing the patch,” according to the info post. Other applications, such as File Explorer, desktop shortcuts, and system settings, should still function. “We are working on a solution and will release an update in an upcoming version,” Microsoft writes.

Affected users can also roll back the patch via the Windows Update settings. To do this, navigate to the update history and then click the “Uninstall updates” button. The patch should be listed there. Clicking the “Uninstall” button should revert the operating system to the previous patch.
